Re: Fixing Eddie

I'm always amazed at how little sunlight folks "up north" have in the winter and how much more they have in the summer.  We lived in London for a couple of years and it was really dark in the winter and light in the summer.  But, as I realized, each spot on earth gets the same amount of daylight in a year's time.

Anyway, on the dome light, in order to keep it from coming on you need to put a switch in the BK/LB wire somewhere after the two switches in the doors.

As for getting the wire back in, you should have pulled a string through with the wire so you could pull it back after you repair it.  And on the connector, can you show us a picture of the one you need?  And it is the LG/Y wire?  I can probably find a replacement.

Hi.
Thanks for the switch/ diagram. I will see if I can do it. Here is a picture of the connector at the floor end of the wire. I need one female pin. Its for the yellow/green wire. Alternativ is connecting the wire outside the connection. Last picture is of the broken connectors for the dome light. I may have to make them myself  And yes I pulled a rope after the wire when I pulled the wire out 🙂.
My girlfriend bought a 6 year old Mazda cx3  today. Take a look at the size of the owners manual. Only norwegian language. About 900 pages

I'll see if I have a spare female connector like that.  But it may take a couple of days as things are pretty busy at the moment.

However, you could just buy a 3-pin connector and use it instead of the factory one.

Re: Fixing Eddie

Hi.
Thanks Gary for your offer  but I decided to just connect the broken wire outside the connection.  Next was getting the Dome light back in. I dont think they are supposed to be curved like this. Maybe caused by the heat from the bulb and the screws holding it. Here I have pulled the wire back up again. Removed the plasic around the connectors and made a new fastening point. Fastened the wires with the original screws but shortened down to only 6mm. To avoid contact with ground. New fastening point black screw head and washer up to the right. And then  To stop the dome light from coming on when a door is opened I found a easy solution. A piece of a little cable tie keeps the door jamb always unconnected.  The tape is to prevent the cable tie bit from maybe falling out. Now I dont worry about letting the doors stay open for long periods of time. No battery drain or melting Dome light. If I need the Dome light I twist the main light switch. Thats it for now. Greetings Stein.

Well done, Stein!

I wouldn't have thought of the cable tie piece.  That's ingenious.

But on the current drain and heat in the dome light, you might consider an LED.  There is certainly still some current drain but very little heat.

Re: Fixing Eddie

Hi.
Here is a little update. The sound quality from Eddies rear speakers have not been very good. Here is one reason  Had 2 better speakers lying around and made them fit. Absolutely an improvement in sound quality.Next thing was the rear interior light. The switch was really sluggish in performanse. So I had it out on the bench and cleaned out all the hardened white goo Ford had put in there 36 years ago.I bought a rattle can with Chrome paint ( which turned out to be almost chrome ) and had a little vaseline spray in the switch. Now it works as new.

Hi again.
To check oil pressure I used a EFI Fuel meter. It showed 22 psi at idle and maxed out at 60 psi 2000 rpm and more. I also found the missing spring for my steering pump when looking for a drill. So I pulled the pump apart again to have it fixed.
Its morning here. Rain. This weekend we are taking a ride to Hell.
Report will follow Greetings Stein.

I can only imagine how bad the sound was from that speaker.    I'm sure that was a big improvement.

Speaking of improvements, that light looks wonderful!  Great job!

And you found the spring the way I find things - when I'm not looking for them.  Now you have it back together is it your spare?

Have fun on the ride, but be careful.  You don't want to stay there.

Re: Fixing Eddie

Hi.
We are back from Hell. The ride to Hell is 150 miles north of us. We crossed a floating bridge. Trondheim And Hell Railway Station In the town Stjørdal the local Amcar club " Hell Cruisers " ( You may find them on facebook )had their yearly Night Cruise to Hell. There was maybe 100 american cars and others. It was fun. Mercedes  ChevroletHomemade Lamborghini Aventador. Steinar Thyholdt spent 7 years to build it.The engine is a v12 from BMW. And the rest is parts from many different car brands. And of course self made body parts. It is registered and he drives it on the roads. From Sunndalen on our way home  Now its time to wash Eddie. Greetings Stein PS I will keep the pump for now.

Hell?  That's an interesting name for a town, but Wikipedia explains it pretty well.  So the cruise to Hell is a cool name.

Trondheim - Wasn't that a huge submarine base for the Germans in WWII?

Those are great pics!  Love them!  But my favorite is this one as the car in the forefront is a 1958 Chevy Impala.  I had one of those in my college years, and with the 348 V8 that thing would roll.  It easily cruised at 100 MPH

Stein - Maybe you can answer the absolutely useless neither trivial question I posted on this thread:
https://forum.garysgaragemahal.com/European-Licence-Plates-tp123885.html

I see that Eddie has an "American-more-square-style" licence plate (front and rear, for what I can see).
Is this a "special" licence dimensions that are allowed for American made cars, in order to fit-in-the-hole?

Just for fun...

Re: Fixing Eddie

Hi.
Eddie is surprisingly clean after the long ride. There were even some wet parts on the road too. But he is well polished
and gets washed frequently 🙂. The dirt doesnt stick to him. Number plates. The long number plates are the regular ones. Some years ago they opened for US size plates for US cars. They almost got them right. But the letters are to close to the edges for a us plate holder not to interfere with the letters. Theres also pressed a bulge around the edges of the number plate that makes it hard to close the frame properly. I bought that number plate frame from Lithuania. Couldnt find any in Norway offering them for sale. Then you can also use old style numberplates on old cars more than 30 years old. Read this. https://www.vegvesen.no/en/vehicles/own-and-maintain/number-plates/
Greetings Stein

Eddie is clean and looks good, but I was referring to the towns and areas you were at. It all looked good!

Thanks Stein!

I suspected something like that, but I was really skeptical.
Here in Quebec, there is only one available size (I suspect the same for other Canadian provinces and territories).
In the best case scenario, it's possible to order a personalized license plate with some specific character combinations.

Nice to see that it's more flexible for our friends on the other side of the big pond!

Re: Fixing Eddie

Hi again.
Eddie behaves well so I have only been cruising around home. We are in the second week with sunny warm days. The nights are cool though. Grumpin , I think most people keep it tidy around them selves. There is generally no litter to see along the roads either. Here is a picture taken from a hunting shed at 21.30. It is still usable light. Ã…lesund is one of Norways most popular cruise destinations. The building in the back ( grey roof ) is hiding some big trafos to supply the ships with electrical power when moored. It is not working yet. But there is also very few cruise ships that can use it. And at last Eddie and the northern light.
Greetings Stein.

But that picture of the northern lights and Eddie is wonderful!
