Re: Hello new users!

Chass
Want to add my appreciation to Gary and the folks that help run these forums!

While our Oregon "Big Blue" has been in the family for a while we have finally decided to give it some much deserved love as a father son retirement project with the goal to be a boat tow vehicle to and in Florida

Sterling's Big Blue:

1985 F250 With a 460 4x4 and 4 speed manual and standard cab

What we are doing to it:
*New Clutch -done
*New Main Seals -done
*New Intake (Edelbrock 2166) - done
*New Carb Holley 600 CFM sitting on intake but no linkage yet
*New Power Steering pump and lines - done
*New Alternator - done
*New Starter - done but would still like to convert to a mini gear reduction
*New HEI Distributor - sitting in block but not timed nor wired
*Remove block heater for original freeze plug (not leaking yet but looked like it could start)

Thanks Again and I will take some pictures today and start a build thread

What is left:

*Put Exhaust back in
*Raise air cleaner to clear HEI distributor
*Spark plugs and wires
*New Windshield - yep doing it ourselves!!!!!!!!
*New Tires

Chass - Welcome!  Glad you joined.

But would it be ok if I moved this to be your own thread?  No prob, but it is just cleaner.

What part of Oregon?  I ask for two reasons.  First, we have a map (Bullnose Forum/Member's Map in the menu) and we can add you with a city or zip.  Second, you may find you are close to another member.

Looks like your truck is outfitted the same way Big Blue was, with the emphasis on was since he's changed quite a bit.  I look forward to seeing the pics and following the progress in a new thread.

But are you towing from Oregon to Florida???  Wow, that's a long way and lot of gas!

Hello Gary,
Yes please do feel free to move this message to its own thread.

Right now we are doing the work at my fathers place with a heated shop in Roseburg and yes please add us to your map

Yep the plan is to tow our Big Blue + Boat all the way to Florida.
At $4/gallon and 8MPG calculating it will cost about $1800.

Thanks Again

Chuck

I drove my 94 F250 with a 460 to Illinois back when the prices of gas were pushing $4.

A friend of my brother in law saw my Oregon plates and asked if I drove it here. I said yes, just doing my part to help the economy. He says yeah, but you don’t have to do it by yourself!

Chass - You are on the map, and you aren't far from Dane/Grumpin.

As for towing, you didn't say how big your boat is but 8 MPG may be optimistic.  There are some people who get that running light.  However, a properly running 460 should be able to get about that with a 20 - 25' boat at reasonable speeds.

Dane - That's funny!
