LMC has a 16 and a 19 Gallon tank for sale. Can the 19 gallon tank fit in the Flair sides? Does it use different brackets to the 16 gallon tank.
No, 19 gallon tank won't fit. The tanks are contoured to fit the frame crossmembers, which are in different locations on the two trucks.

Ok it looks like it will be a new 16 gallon tank then. Do you know if the LMC supplied tanks are off a good Quality as its coming over to Australia and I don't want to have any problems.

I bought my tank and associated items from Rock Auto, but if LMC sells the Spectra brand like Jon says, then yes they are decent quality. The Spectra stuff is made in Canada.

I’ve heard all good things about spectra tanks. Even the diesel guys use them although they say “not for diesel” and I’ve never heard of any issues. Hopefully they will tolerate E15, as I hear that legislation was just passed in the USA lifting the ban on it and we can expect to see it as the standard fuel at our pumps this summer 😡.

Thanks Cory I buy gear from Rock Autos as well so I will have to check them out as well. I'm thinking of installing a Fitec  efi system do you know which year had the return line back to the tank as I may order one that has the provision for the return line to the tank.

The Spectra stuff seems to be pretty good quality. The new oil pan I installed on my 302 was a Spectra brand, and it seemed every bit as heavy and well formed as the original Ford piece. The fuel tank seems good as well, and the sending unit worked fine (I tested before installation). The only issue I had...and it was a small issue, was that the Spectra fuel tank strap kit pieces were just a hair shorter than the original Ford straps, and the bolt holes were too small. Easy to fix of course...drill larger holes.

I spent some time pre-bending the new straps to match the originals. They won't fit properly if you try to get them to form the the tank.

In the Bullnose era, that would be the 302 EFI trucks...so look at parts/tanks from 1985.5-1986. If you look at them on Rock Auto, you can see that the sending units have two barbs...

https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/ford,1985,f-150,5.0l+302cid+v8,1121555,fuel+&+air,fuel+sending+unit,4436

Those sending units are meant to have fuel pumps in them (separate items).

They'll take a different plug/connector, and I'm pretty sure you'd have to order a fuel tank specific to a 302 EFI truck as well.

The sending unit with the return line will be the one for 1986 trucks with the EFI 302/5.0L engine. If the fuel pump is enough for the FiTech, then do that. If not then just run a piece of fuel line to the bottom of the tank and put an in-line pump.

If you convert to FiTech, do NOT buy the dual plane intake manifold. It won’t work. It has to be the regular one. You probably know this, but it would be an expensive mistake if you didn’t, so better safe than sorry.

Good info, guys.  But Darin also asked if a 19 gallon tank can be used on a Flareside.  Does anyone know?

EDIT: I'm a whole page behind.  The question has been answered and more besides.

Why no dual plane intake with a fitech? I have exactly that on a 302 and it performs excellent.

Sorry, that was one of my most half-baked information-lacking comments ever...

I was going off the recollection that oz’s F100 has the straight six, not a V8. I was also jumping to conclusions that he would be looking at the two models of Offenhauser intakes. The Offy dual plane intake isn’t a true dual plane design for primaries and secondaries like it is in a V8. I don’t know exactly how they work, but I believe it is in the manufacturer’s specifications that they warn against using the straight six Offy DP for throttle body injection conversions, and recommend the single port Offy C intake for that. I should dig up some links, but off the top of my head that is what I remember. Perhaps just enough to put my foot in my mouth again... 🤦‍♂️

Guys I don't want to high jack Cory's build page so this will short and sweet. The 300 6 is coming out and a 351 stroker is going into the truck. I just wanted to know a good brand of Gas tank and fittings that Cory had used in his build so I could get these parts shipped over for the new engine (clean gas system for the truck). Cheers Darin

I’m a fan of the 300 six, but that stroked W will have more torque and more HP. Fun!  👍

I am just getting to this now but went thru all the post before I answered it but the answer is it will not fit I tried to fit the 19 gal from the parts truck to my short bed flare side.

Because of the flare side small 16 gal tank is why I installed the parts truck 19 gal rear tank in my flare side
