I scanned this "Leaf Spring Dimensions" list from the NPD catalog. I thought it might be useful to someone looking to replace their stock springs with something heavier or looking for a little extra lift. Since the listing shows the free-arch dimensions and eye-to-eye dimensions, once someone knows the specs of what they currently have, it should be easier to find the spring they want.
I tried to scan to PDF, but my software seems to just do JPG. But it does look clear viewing on my computer. If this is useful, you may want to put it on the page where the Spring p/n are provided.Ford_Leaf_Spring_dimensions.jpg

Well, I didn't get it added as I can't seem to download that file and can't find the page in the NPD catalog. Can you email me the file? Or, better yet, point me to the right page on NPD. I guess I don't yet understand the file thing on Nabble.

I have Adobe Acrobat 9 which does a great job of converting just about anything to pdf form.

If Lebaront doesn't get it to you, I'll bring the JPG printout to work and scan it on our copy machine which will then save it as a PDF.
BTW, that chart is not on the NPD website, you have to get a "hard copy" catalog.

Mike - Bill did get it to me, somthanks anyway. And he also said:
FWIW, it would be great if there was a cross reference for Ford PNs. I don't think Darth's rear springs are in that list, codes are J K which I assume J is front (coil springs and K is rear, progressive leaf springs, 2 one above the other). But I need some help from y'all as I'm getting swamped, what with getting this forum going, documenting things, and getting ready for the get-together/show. So, I will try to get the NPD thing added to the web site today, let y'all know, and then maybe you can see if you can figure out any cross-referencing. Ok?

On the forum, and the NDP list, there are references to "spring codes". Either 2 letter or four letter code, which seems to found be on the "data plate" on the door jamb. But my '82 data plate doesn't have any spring codes listed.
Where are these springs codes found?

Ok, I put a new page for front suspension: Suspension & Steering/Front Suspension. And it has the NPD table. Plus I added it to the bottom of the Suspension & Steering/Rear Suspension/Rear Springs page. Note that the pdf had both front and rear springs in it, so I edited the file and created a file for the front and one for the rear.
Please see what you think. But, I will say the rear suspension pages need a lot of work.

It's a large subject. Looks good to me.
I can't find where I saw the info about the springs codes now. There is this http://www.blueovaltrucks.com/tech-articles/suspension/ford-truck-spring-codes/ but I think that must be for later model trucks as my 82 decal doesn't have that info.

Missed that question as I was posting. Here's Big Blue's label, and in the lower right corner you can see "7" and "K", and that's front/rear. Now, what you do with that I'm not quite sure. This page on Spring Codes says for 1985 that 7 = E0TZ 5310-S and K = E3TZ 5310-U. I see the 7 in the NPD table on the Front Suspension page as a 2820# spring. But I can't find the K numbers on the Rear Spring page. So, it needs more study.

My decal is a little different from yours. Maybe decal layout depends on if truck was built in US or Canada - or perhaps the decal changed over the model years.

Here is mine, also Canadian built, but all crew cabs were in 1986.

So the spring code must have been added after 82.

Well, if I'd only read my own web site, I wrote "The first thing to note about spring codes is that the certification labels didn't carry that information until March 13, 1981" on the Spring Codes page. And, to prove it, here's Dad's label from 9/80 w/o spring codes.

Well, apparently I didn't read your site either - but the spring codes didn't appear until after March 1982 (according to my data plate / build date).

I can change the verbiage around to say something like "March of 1981 for US-built trucks, and some time after March of 1982 for Canadian-built trucks." Would that work?

Hmm... my 1982 parts truck had a build date of 10/81, USA made, and I don't see a spring code:
SHORT BED 4-DOOR DIESEL: 1986 F350 4x4 under construction-- 7.3 IDIT ZF5+GVOD
STRAIGHT SIX 4X4: 1981 F150 2wd to 4x4-- 300 I6 close ratio diesel T19, hydroboost brakes, Saginaw steering BIG F: 1995 F-Superduty under construction— converting to 6.9L IDI diesel ZF5+DNE2 |

So, perhaps the catalog is wrong and the codes started in '82 for both the US and Canada?
