Hello from NW Washington!

Hi everyone, my name is Cameron. I live about two hours north of Seattle, Washington.
I already owned a Ford truck, but I just recently bought a Bullnose for my second project truck. First, a little about me, then about my trucks.

I am 27 years old, have been married for four years, and have a two year old daughter. I work for one of the local city governments as a drinking water plant operator. The schedule rotates, so I work weekends and nights a lot, but the pay and benefits are really nice. In my spare time, my main hobby is collecting old road maps, with a specialty in gas station maps. If anyone here is familiar with them, I am also member #894 of the Road Map Collectors Association (RMCA). I also love classic rock music, and am currently the frontman/ singer for a band around here just getting off the ground. Most anything with engines catches my interest, and in addition to my two trucks, I also own two tractors. One is a 1966 Farmall 140, which runs, but needs cleaning up and a little tinkering. The other is a 1973 Allis-Chalmers 620 (like a big garden tractor), but this does not run yet and needs a full restoration. Additionally, I like to drink beer, whiskey, Scotch, tequila, etc. I also like getting outside to go camping and shoot guns.

Now for my trucks. I will admit I am not strictly a Ford guy. There are GM and old Dodge trucks that I like too, so please don't hate me! When I was growing up, my dad had a 1984 Suburban, then a base-model 1992 F-150, then a 1988 Suburban, and now he has a 1993 F-250 with the IDI 7.3 diesel in it.
However, I just have always owned Fords myself. My first car was my dad's hand-me-down 1999 Ford Contour. Once that hit 300,000 miles, I bought a 1997 Ford Ranger at a government surplus auction from the city of Leavenworth, Washington. That truck was as basic as can be. 2.3L 4-cylinder, 5 speed, virtually no options. I loved that truck, but with a growing family, I needed something bigger. So I sold the Ranger to my mom and bought a 1986 F-150 from my neighbor. It had a fuel-injected 302 in it, with a C-6. But I found it to have a bunch of problems, so I sold it and bought my current F-250 from a dealer.

My current larger truck is a 1992 F-250. It is burgundy and silver, long bed extended cab. It's 4wd, with the locking hubs and manual transfer case. The engine is the big block 460 (7.5L), but I get a little bit better mileage than most 460's because it is backed with the ZF5 5-speed. It is an XLT model, so the interior is decked out. Bright red (which has grown on me), and I have the captains chairs. It's like an easy chair on wheels! I've owned it for three and a half years, and now the mileage is approaching 140,000. Since I've owned it, I have made upgrades, the most notable being the Saginaw power steering pump swap, which I found- bracket and all- in a 1993 E-250 in a wrecking yard.

OK, you guys want to know about my Bullnose. About a month ago I came across this on GovDeals, and knew I had to bid on it. Miraculously I won. It is a 1986 F-150 4x2. Single cab, longbed, as basic as can be. The transmission is a C-6 and up front it has a 300 straight 6 (4.9L). This one has a feedback carb on it, apparently the last year with this setup. I bought the truck from the State of Oregon, who owned it since it was delivered in the summer of 1986. I ended up paying about $1150 for it, and after transferring the title, I am still into it for under $1500. It runs and drives, but the engine does idle a tad rough at times (a tinkering project). The carb and the EGR look fairly new, and it has an aftermarket stereo. I plan to go back to an original stereo at some point, but I will probably get one with a cassette player, so I can play my tapes. Currently the stock oil pressure gauge doesn't work, but it was bypassed with a new gauge. The temp gauge is also not working, however I have verified that the gauge itself works. I believe the problem lies with a combination of the thermostat and temp sender. There are a few dents, and lots of surface rust. I don't see any rust-out. I will need a seat cover, paint and some other odds and ends. But I think I got a pretty good deal on it.

Cameron - Welcome!  Glad you joined.  

That may be the best introduction post ever!  Well done.  We won't hate you for liking other vehicles.  I have a '69 Dodge Super Bee and a '50 Chevy pickup.  Bill/85lebaront2 has a 1985 Lebaron T2, of all things.  And, he is into garden tractors.

So, where in NW Washington are you?  I ask because we have a map (Bullnose Forum/Member's Map in the menu) and I'd be happy to add you if I had a town/city.

And, being in the PNW, you may fit right in with some of the guys who are finders of neat stuff, much of which is up there.  Boy, there are some nice trucks up there for decent prices.

You should start a thread in the main section about your truck.  We'll follow along and help where we can.

Hi Gary! Thanks for the warm welcome!

Haha I have been told I am very thorough talking about myself.

So officially, I am in the Sedro Woolley, WA zipcode (98284). But I am actually in a neighborhood called Glenhaven, located on Cain Lake. This is just south of Lake Whatcom and just north of the Whatcom County line. However, we will be moving soon, as we have our house for sale. So with that said, I will update you with my new location.

I will indeed start a thread about my truck. It will just take me a bit to figure out how to load all the pictures.

Thank you! It's not so much of a rough idle. I just notice that it quivers (for lack of a better word) slightly when idling. A little bit of a shake. I was simply expecting a straight six to run smoother. But I've only owned full-sized trucks with V-8's, so I am not fully sure what to expect with this engine.
