That's insulting to Pugs. I think I had heard slope nose at one time, but that was back in 97 or 98 before the new Super Duty body came out.

The body style of these trucks had a few problems, like door and bed flexing, door cracking, etc... but otherwise they are pretty good, and are still in healthy service around here. My father has a late 1997, and my wife has a 2000 F-150. Caltrans still uses a propane/gasoline version as of this date: 7/17/23.
Going from my memory back to 1995/97: So take this with a grain of salt. And feel free to correct me. (These trucks were supposed to be introduced as 1996 models). Even the Secret Ford code for the mules on the testing ground was PN-96. The PN-96 F-250/F-350 were scraped as well. What happened isn't clear, (I don't remember why) but the F-250HD/F-350 mules were problematic and were redesigned into the super-duty (Supposedly to fix those problems). I know our dealer had to turn away, or sell the F-250HD/F-350 previous version, to people who wanted a "PN-96" version of the F-350 instead. So there are NINE year model versions of the 1997-2003/4 Early 1997: Build Dates from 1995 to 6/96. F-150 - F-250/LD (Lots of one year wonder differences between this and the later versions) Late 1997: Build Dates from 7/96. F-150 - F-250/LD 1998 F-150 - F-250/LD 1999 F-150 - F-250/LD 2000-2003 F-150 - F-150(7700) (The F-250LD was renamed F-150(7700) 2004 F-150 Heritage (In 2wd only) For what they are, they are decent trucks mechanically. If the engines are taken care of, they can go well over 400,000 miles. However something as simple as a timing chain break can catastrophically ruin the engines. Calling them a "pug" nose amuses me.

The dashboards on those trucks have aged so incredibly poorly... We still have an '03 at work on its last legs.
I had a mint 2003 Supercrew 4x4 with the 4.6L that I bought for work in 2017 and promptly sold when they got me a company vehicle (big mistake). Very quiet cabin and comfy ride. I don't know how common adjustable pedals are these days but it had 'em.

They call it Jellybean or Dicknose.
There is a poster I downloaded 2-3 years ago:

I just call them "junk". As far as the F-series goes, IMHO the Aeronose was the pinnacle of quality and desirability (and the market prices reflect this)... and the 1997 F150 was a slap in the face to such. Cheapened to make it more of a consumer vehicle (per the super duty split)... and corners were cut.
Sorry, not a fan of this generation .

With this emoji, instead of "Jellybean" you could suggest "Suppository"?

DANG! Ya'll are being rough on these old Pug Noses now!!! I agree, they aren't very desirable, and will probably go down in history as the least desirable f series. But they are kinda cute, in an ugly pug kinda way.....bwahahaha. A face only a mother could love to be honest.

I have heard it called the "Taurus" pickup truck numerous times.
It's funny, because as soon as someone said that, I knew *immediately* what generation they were referring to.

I've owned a 1997 Taurus and definitely see the "sameness".
I wont tell my wife about the other nicknames. She might like Jellybean, but wouldn't be amused with the other one.
