1993 transmission question

I have been looking for a used transmission for my 86 do that I can rebuild it and swap it out to avoid having my truck down for too long. I found a transmission for sale from a 1993 f150 and it’s listed as an AOD. Does the 1993 still use an AOD or is it an AODE?

According to what I read in this book, that's probably an AODE.  And it looks like the easiest way to tell is whether or not it has two input shafts, one inside the other.  If so, it is an AOD, and if  it only has a single input shaft it is the E.  On the other hand, an AODE has a large connector on the left side that the AOD doesn't have, as shown below.

Gary, it will also have a plug on the passenger side for the solenoids on the valve body and lack the TV lever outside of the manual lever. It attaches to an inner shaft on that side.

Here are some pictures of a 4R75W that Bert's Tranmissions in Newport News built for Matt's 1986 F150. It is set up for a 4WD truck so the extension is different. Case came from a truck that was owned by CSX and used at the coal pier in NN is why it still looks dirty.




Note the white connector on the driver's side near the back, that is the solenoid connector and the single solid input shaft. Strange shift lever was to convert it from a cable shift (1992-1996) to a column shift for the 1986.

AOD.  Cars got the AOD-E version beginning in late '93; trucks got the 4R70W (sometimes labelled AODE-W) version beginning in '94.
