zf5 swap reasonable?

Between trying to find a ZF5 for a small block and then a good one or needing to find someone that knows what there are doing and a price of $1500 to $2000 and needing to find all the brackets & hydr. clutch setup was all to much so I went with the Advance Adaptor's over drive unit.

All I had to do was move the transmission back 7.5 inches - shifter hole, cross member & brackets, shorter drive shaft. Other than the drive shaft it could be done in a weekend.

And I have 8 forward and 2 reverse gears now not that you can or want to use them all, all the time.
I find I have used it most when in 4th gear for 4th OD.

The single most identifying feature is that diamond webbing on the sides of the case.

Anyone who pokes their head under a late '80's- early '90's will know right away.
Definitely more common behind the 4.9 and 351H.O. than the 5.0 or tame version of the 351.

It's a good truck gearbox, but doesn't like to be lugged.

You'll need the transmission tunnel plate, as it's much higher in the back than a 4 speed.

I bought the ZF5 that the guy had for sale. He only had the transmission.

My assumption is that I can use my 4 speed pedals, master cylinder, transfer case and modify my transfer case shift linkage for distance. I can buy a new 11" clutch and flywheel, if necessary.

I've found a donor 88 Bronco that had an M5OD. I'm taking the drive shafts, the crossmember, the gussets, the shifter, the shifter bezel, the shifter boot, and the transmission tunnel cover.

Is there anything else I should take off the donor truck?

Make sure you grab the plug and wiring for the reverse switch (in case it is different from yours). I had to get one specifically for my M5OD swap. Just bring side cutters with you and snip the wire off and leave room to splice it into your truck.
