hopefully the title tells exactly where I am going. I have been contemplating converting an ac compressor to run on board air for off road use and possibly running tools etc. I have seen it done many times back when it was someone else doing it and I just thought it a novelty but now it intrigues me. I see many possibilities so I guess I'm asking who has done it and which compressor to use. really wanting feedback whether success stories or failures.
I haven't done it but I seriously considered it. Was looking at a York or Techumseh compressor, as discussed here. But since I have an aux battery I wound up going with an inverter and a Harbor Freight 110V compressor. Works really well.
I don't think you have room under hood for another compressor and the plumbing....
Jim,
Lil'Red is a '87 F250 HD, 4.10's, 1356 4x4, Zf-5, 3G, PMGR, Saginaw PS, desmogged with a Holley 80508 and Performer intake.
Too much other stuff to mention.
Very true! The underhood area is P.A.C.K.E.D. Besides, if I didn't have the inverter how would my brother and I have brewed coffee with a Keurig at 13,000'? The air compressor wouldn't have helped a bit with that.
