Upper tailgate trim

So I finally found a tailgate which seems to be from an 83 or 84 xlt with the upper tailgate trim. I bought the trim piece but have a couple of questions. Do the plastic clips snap on the rivets and the trim piece snap on the clips?? Is there an orientation for the clips themselves?? Is there an instruction link for this somewhere on this web site??
I’ve been searching but no luck yet.

I believe the plastic clips slip onto the studs and shift left or right to lock. then the aluminum trim snaps into them.

Hey Mat thanks, that helps a lot.
So you don’t think it matters which way they mount on the rivets??
There is a fat end and a narrow end.

i would look at the first and last position to see if they would land too wide for the trim to snap on or whether they would be narrow enough for the trim to slip left and right. it may be necessary for them to be just right to avoid movement which would allow it to wear the paint.

That makes sense, maybe the narrow end allows you to slide the trim some to get the 2 studded clips at each end to line up with the holes in the tailgate.
Thanks for the help, trying not to scratch the new paint is exactly what I’m going for here. Man that stuff is expensive!!
