I like the old Radio Shack TRC-465s with sideband.  Legal 12 watts PEP, and about 2/3rds more distance than a regular 4 watt radio.

Truck: 1981 F-150 Explorer / Engine: 300-6 California MCU Feedback System / Trans: T-18 - 4 speed / 2.75 Ford Rear Axle Open Diff.

Two year update: Still using the same setup (other than some power wiring upgrades documented in another thread). Only issue is that the surfaces of the antenna and it's spring/hardware have corroded with winter salt exposure. But it all works fine... was chatting with truckers on it a bit today!
1984 F150: 300 L6, AOD, RWD. EEC IV / TFI, Feedback Carter YFA Carb. Stock everything but radio (for now).
