The regulator installation looks good.
But I'm confused about the dash lights going. As you can see from the schematics on pages 39 and 40 in the 1981 EVTM, the headlights and side marker lamps should both be on when the headlights are on. And Page 54 gives you the dash lights. Looks like the switch has to be faulty.

Bad switch is my thoughts also, the switch has to be just right for it to work at all. But that's for tomorrow, after I finish painting the living room, gotta love spring cleaning.

Got the first coat of paint on the living room walls, and the correct answer to the wife's statement I think we should paint the living room is not "didn't we do that last year" ? It's yes and have you picked out a color?
I pulled the light switch out, and played around with a 6 volt battery and the switch. I could only get voltage out at one small place between parking light and headlights on. Once the switch slid past that the voltage would go away. Just as the dash lights went off. I glad i kept the receipts, exchanged the switch this morning.

There's a smart man! And, he kept the receipts!
I'll bet that living room looks good. And, I'll bet the light switch fixes the problem.

Up date, Put the new switch in this morning and could not get any dash lights lights to come on.??? wiggling things i could get them to flash now and then. so apart came the dash and the the wiring plug that goes into the switch has cracked on the corner and the terminal with the blue wire was loose and would push up when plugged in to the switch.
So off to the yard, got one out of an 85 also got the kick panels with the air vents, nice find. Now the switch and plug are changed out. Dash light as bright as they will go. Dash lights as low as they will go. Tomorrow i will start putting it back together again. David By the way I also got the dinning room painted,

OK one more question on this subject. I got everything back together or so I thought, as i was re checking I found I had missed reconnecting the two ground wires on the right side of the dash near the radio. yes "G701"
My confusion is, where exactly do they attach? I thought the point was the bar from the firewall to the bottom of the dash, but they are too short. Unless I routed a bundle of wires wrong. Help please David

I don't remember exactly where they were placed, my mind seems to recall them being screwed to the dash frame someplace near the radio & speaker.

Grounds are shown here: Electrical/Grounds. Or, you can go here: Electrical/EVTM/1986 EVTM/Grounds and see on Page 11 that G701 is shown in Illustration 3 on Page 67.
Bottom Line: It goes to the firewall.
