Pulled the engine on the 81 F100 Custom and all (err.. most) went well until I separated the transmission from the block. When I went to take off the torque converter, I could not make headway with the 9/16 nuts holding it on. Tried three different wrenches, tried soaking in PB blaster. All that I've succeeded in is rolling shoulders. It's too narrow to fit anything but a wrench. Any thoughts, anyone?
Ford torque converter nuts are very soft, so if they've been overtightened, they can be a pain.
Also, remember they are never to be reused - go see your friendly dealer and get new ones.
