Torque Converter Nuts

DH166
Pulled the engine on the 81 F100 Custom and all (err.. most) went well until I separated the transmission from the block. When I went to take off the torque converter, I could not make headway with the 9/16 nuts holding it on. Tried three different wrenches, tried soaking in PB blaster.   All that I've succeeded in is rolling shoulders. It's too narrow to fit anything but a wrench. Any thoughts, anyone?

Try a six point socket through the starter hole and a little heat from a propain torch

Well, I feel dumb. Didn't even consider that I could rotate the thing. Worked out perfectly. Thanks for the tip.

Happens to all of us.  (And I have things like that happen all the time, but don't tell anyone.  OK?)  Glad you got it off.

Ford torque converter nuts are very soft, so if they've been overtightened, they can be a pain.

Also, remember they are never to be reused - go see your friendly dealer and get new ones.
