Shorty headers are an attempt to get equal length head pipes and end up where the stock manifolds do.

To that end they work great, but sometimes they make spark plug access almost impossible.

They will have a different resonant frequency than long tube headers.

Another question for yall. What should j gap my plugs at. Seems like, from what ive been reading, .40 -.45 is about normal.

If you are running the stock ignition then the stock gap is appropriate.  And w/o a signature I don't know anything about your truck so can only "assume".  

By the way, it looks like you are replying via email.  That works but brings with it the previous person's post, so it is a bit messy.  Your call on that as it is your thread.
