Red Striped Trim Ring

Hey gang, I'm in need of a single Red Striped 15" Ford Trim ring as pictured below. I have three but missing one. Don't care about paint, just that it has the grooves and no dings. Thanks!

I picked up some from Dennis Carpenter a couple years ago. I think they may have NOS ford. They have the grooves for the red stripes but the stripes are not there.

The original Ford ones with the stripes are getting very hard to find in good condition.  I think your only hope is going to be Ebay or a junkyard.  Unfortunately, most used ones are dinged up by now.

Why do you have to have the grooves?  I don't see why you couldn't get new aftermarket trim rings (none of them have stripes) and simply have stripes put on them.

I know a guy who has a dark blue 1988 F150 Lariat and he put matching dark blue stripes on a set of aftermarket trim rings.  I thought it looked great!

Thanks Rick, but I have three of the red striped trim rings already and want to keep with them. Hoping that finding a single trim ring would not be that big of a deal.

Yep it looks like Carpenter is sold out. I see they have some for the 16" wheels but no 15". Ill keep my eyes open for you for any good used ones.

I'm still looking for one of these and have a question??? The wheels these came on were both 7 and 8" wide. ls there a difference in the trim ring for the different widths of the wheel? Thanks!

John - I've searched the wheel cover page (Documentation/Driveline/Wheel Covers) and I'm a bit lost.  It looks to me like the trim rings are a Type 15.  Right?  If so, I'm not finding them used on Bullnose trucks.  Were they?

Looks like they were used on the little Ranger and Aerostar, but those had 14" wheels.

What am I missing?

The 8" wide [wagon] wheels were optional starting in 1987 for 4x4 Broncos with the 31" tire option. They were exactly like the earlier 7" wide wheels, but had an extra "step" in them to gain the extra inch.  The trim rings fit either the 7" or 8" wide wheel.  The trim rings with the red stripes were used from 1982 - 1989. These were replaced with plain trim rings in 1990 before being completely dropped in 1992.

Below is a picture of the 8" wide wheels I have on Lucille with the red-striped trim rings.  You can see the extra "step" in the wheel and how the trim ring fits up to it.  If you have the 7" wheels, the trim ring would fit against the face of the wheel.

Ebay would probably be the best seeing as you are casting a wider net than searching just local.

he could even luck out and get a whole set of brand new NOS trim rings and can retain the 3 he has to use as back up spares.  But it will take time searching, even with the OE part number from my accessory booklet it took some 6 or 7 years to finally track down a set of 5 NOS trim rings for my '56 on ebay and funny enough doing a search for '56 wouldnt have helped cause the trim rings have a 1953 design date and the box I got is marked 1953 wheel trim rings.  So in his case might have to try searching for different years if he cant get the exact part number.

These are beautiful David!.... but after shipping they are $58.99 more than I paid for my truck 🤑. Yikes!

John, I have two junkyard spares but unfortunately they are not without blemishes. They are not “rough” like the $15 eBay one, but probably not what you are looking for. I don’t get to the junkyards often anymore but I will watch for them when I do get a chance to go.

Not bad, can always make a counter offer and place a note to the seller that you are willing to negotiate.

That set is $700, and the NOS set I got for my '56, guy wanted $300 for it then another $50 for shipping then ebay throws on tax I was looking at close to $500 for a set of 5 NOS rings, roughly $100 per ring.  I did a counter offer at $175 with a message to him that im willing to negotiate and that I started off with the $175 offer as that is $35ea per trim ring and reproduction stainless steel ones are $30ea.  He returned with a counter offer of $275 and stated he understood where im coming from but that these are OE ford parts and would always be worth more.  I did a final offer of $225 and agreed that OE ford parts are worth more, the chinese repops are $15 ea, US made including dennis carpenter who is licensed by ford sells them for $30.  Told him I am willing to go up to $45 ea making it $225 and that there is always a limit for value when you have repops avaliable.  Guy agreed and I ended up getting the rings for $297.16 after shipping and tax.

If you are reasonable in your offers you can convince many sellers on Ebay to accept your offer.  The worse thing someone can do is lowball them so much.  I doubt I could have ever got these trim rings nor got a reply from him if I would have started my offer at $50 vs where I did which was $175.

For theses if I really wanted them I would probably start my offer at $450 which would be $112.50 per ring/center cap set which is a bit pricy in my book but its a reasonable offer based off his $700 set price.

Any chance I could get pictures and maybe talk you out of one of them? I only need one and have entertained the idea of removing the dings and such. I've seen incredible repairs done on trim.

They are sitting in the bed of my project crew cab, and I can take some pictures tomorrow in the daylight. I would be happy to pass one along to you at the junkyard price that I paid plus the ride. I cannot speculate whether the blemishes are repairable, but if nothing else it would give you *something* to mount on until you located a better one at a sane price. They don’t look horrible, and would be better than a missing ring.

If you don't want to ship it you could just hand it over when you two meet in September.
