New Member with 1985 F150 Lariat XLT 5.8L

I look forward to using the info on your site. It has been helpful to me already. My mother in law has a 1985 F150 Lariat XLT with a 5.8L engine. It is in pretty good shape with only 26K miles on it. The F150 is in SC and I am in FL, and I work on the vehicle whenever I visit SC. The vehicle has been sitting unused for few years. I am presently adjusting the choke and idle of a rebuilt carb (4180c). It was not 'plug and play' after the rebuild! After I drained the old fuel, it cranks, but the choke plate does not go vertical. I am reading up on how to adjust the choke/idle and look forward to working the issue on my next visit to SC. I am sure there will be many additional items to repair ( eg ignition timing, door seals, electrical wires chewed by rodents), and your site has a geyser of information.

Bill - Welcome!

That's really low mileage.  Should be a very nice truck, and the 351HO, which is what the 4bbl version was called, was a sweet spot in my estimation as it had the least amount of emissions "stuff" on it of all the engines.

And glad the site is helping.  I assume you've found this page on the carb: Fuel Systems/Carburetors, Chokes, & EFI/4180C.  And the one on 85/86 Fuel System Adjustments.  But what about Page 53 in the 1985 EVTM?  That has the wiring diagram for the choke circuits, and they have to work correctly in order for the choke plate to go vertical.

As for Florida, we have a member's map (Bullnose Forum/Member's Map) and I'd be happy to add you if you just give me your town.

Welcome aboard!

I'm quite happy with my little 302, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't have a little bit of 351HO envy in me;).

Thanks for the info, especially page 53 of the 1985 EVTM... I'll need to check functionality with my DVM.
You can add me to the Members Map... I'm located in Winter Springs FL.
