Actually, lift prices have gone down. Depending on the brand. There has been a huge competition in that world for the last 20 years, pressure from China drove down prices, even put some USA companies out of business.
I have a backyard buddy 4 post lift. Dad bought it back in 2004ish. Its been great! Two post lifts are great too. I'd rather have a 4 post for stability, and have a hydraulic jack on the lift so I can raise the wheels up while on the lift....but the 4 post does take up more room. So I can see the two post in Garys garage being the wiser choice since the bay he works in is more narrow than what I have always had.
If ya'll want a lift, I highly recommend saving $$ and getting the expensive one. It's a tool that you will be standing under, and using the rest of your life. Your precious project vehicles will be more safe, and more enjoyable to work on when you have a sturdy lift. I've been under some cheap chinese 4 posts that are not as stable as Gary's chinese two post....just saying. Read the reviews.
