Oops, I forgot the steering wheel.  There's a part in the tilt column that is known to break.  When it does it can cause the problem you are having as well as an issue where the truck won't start.  There is a short discussion of that on the page at Documentation/Interior/Steering Columns, and some links there to how to fix it.

Big Red 85 F150 XLT Lariat 5.8l (used to have 4bbl Holley, now Edelbrock proflo4 MPFI) rewired with kwikwire harness, 2 in. Lift, 32 in. tires.  Dakota  digital VHX dash with bim can bus to Edelbrock.  Sat for 15 years at 7500 ft elev.  Resto in progress.

Malachi gets home tomorrow,  I'll talk with him about the radio, we have a stereo cassette model.  I would love to send it to you to be upgraded.  But it's his truck, officially.   I'll let you know what he thinks this weekend.
