Hood bumpers

My 81 came with no hood bumpers at all, so I ordered part 41-1585 from LMC. It arrived looking like this:



It appears to be made of hard plastic. The "cup" at the top has no give to it. I can't imagine closing the hood hard on this thing, surely it will break. I'm thinking there is a rubber piece that goes on top of this, but there is nothing on the LMC site about that, nor do internet searches turn up anything.

I tried searching on this site, I found a lot of information about hoods and bumpers, but nothing specific to this. Any ideas?

That is how the originals look and yes, they are hard. Adjust until it just barely touches the underside of the hood.

I didn't know the actual Ford product was still out there, or I might have gone for it.

Anyhow, I screwed them in and slowly raised them until it felt like they were just in contact with the hood, all seems good.
