Note on the Engines/Starters page that Ford used that kit on all engines up to and including the 351W from 1980 on to convert to the recommended replacement PMGR starter.
That kit's instructions change the wiring to what is shown on the Electrical/PMGR Wiring page.

I did not realize this was not available or recommended on the 460 and diesel.

Ford didn't do it, at least as a retrofit on the Bullnose trucks for the larger engines. I don't know about later. However, I'm running a PMGR starter on my truck, and I think both Jim and Bill are on their 460's as well.

Well made them an offer of $15 and they accepted.
There's one more left if anybody is interested. Free shipping. If I'm correct I could just get the same starter that's in my 92 Bronco, 351.

Glad you got it, but you don't mean use a 351W starter on a 460 do you? I don't think that will work as they are two different part numbers. But, maybe I've misunderstood?

I don't know which starter part number to use on a 460.
You're not misunderstood I am. Actually I was thinking weird there! So a starter from a 92 460?

Starters are here: Engines/Starters. It looks like an E1TF 11001-CA for the 460.
As for the '92 460, they may have changed starters by then. But Huck, the 1990 half-truck didn't have a PMGR starter on his 460. And my catalog stops in '89.

That's not a PMGR starter is it? I think I'm really getting confused! What PMGR starter would I use on my 1986 460? Or am I way off course on this, thinking you install a PMGR starter?

Yes, I have a PMGR starter on Big Blue. But it isn't one from Ford. It is aftermarket, and I'd have to check to see what brand. But there are several people making/selling them for the 460.

I think my rememberer used to be better - but I really can't remember.
