Hey gang I've been told a pop can as an example may be used to block off the EGR passage. My simple question is do I put the strip of aluminum on the intake manifold side or the EGR side as mine has the sandwich type cooler in between the two.

Doesn't really matter since there's no flow. But, for grins put it on the manifold side.

I was going to do that just because that plunger protruding out of the EGR itself is pretty stout! But functional. Sent from AOL Mobile Mail On Wednesday, June 20, 2018 Gary Lewis [via Bullnose Enthusiasts] <[hidden email]> wrote:

Hey Gary who would you recommend I take my truck to get it running right and perhaps fix a couple of major leaks? I'm tired of throwing $$$ at it with zero results. Probably nothing wrong with the old 7200VV since I've put 2 more on it and basically with the same results! Very frustrating and I'm very tired of fooling with it.
Thanks Randy

Randy - Sorry to hear that it didn't fix it. I don't have a good recommendation, but perhaps Brandon/Bruno2 will. He's a lot closer to you than I am.
You are looking for someone that can do a good job troubleshooting, and I'd recommend that he run a leak-down test to find out if you have valve or head gasket problems. Valve problems can cause all sorts of issues that cannot be solved with carb tuning or replacement. As for the leaks, where are they?

Thanks Gary : leaks are oil pan and possibly rear main seal. Also discovered a little oil running down from near the top of the lower radiator hose area, that's a new one 🙁 maybe timing chain cover.

Don't know, but I'd assume in or near BA as that's where Brandon lives. Not Muskogee, but closer than Skiatook.

I had the mechanic I use for stuff I can't or won't do, replace my oil pan gasket and rear main seal. He recommended a one piece gasket. I found this one, worked good.
This is for a 460, I assume they make them for the 351. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/fms-m-6710-a460/applications/year/1986

Before I turn in for the night, as I just got home from T town from working, one last thought before I call an expert. My PCV valve vibrates intermittently and the longer the truck runs "in the driveway". And gets warm it starts to idle pretty good then speeds up to 1200 rpms. Still idling fairly well but fast and I have no way to dial it back. The curb screw is all the way out. Hoses have been changed on the metal line that connects the ends oF the line to intake and pcv valve.
Thanks a very tired Randy

Vacuum leak?

Yes, it sounds like there's a significant vacuum leak. That's only way that it would idle that fast. Perhaps the PCV valve is bad? Try sticking your finger over the opening on the end of the PCV valve and see if the idle drops dramatically.

Apparently but I'll be darned if I can find it! New carburetor and if I spray carb cleaner on the throttle shaft it speeds up but I was told unless it's leaking gas out of the shaft that it was normal!

Take a look at this link and see an easy, effective and inexpensive way to locate vacuum leaks. I know, as it helped me.
