Hey Nickelplate,

Would you happen to know where your trans fluid sits on the dipstick when cold and not running?

I have an aftermarket dipstick in mine, and it barely reads on the stick at all. I now have 13 quarts in it, and it is working fine and runs nice and cool. I'll add more if I have to, but I don't want to overfill it either.

Finding a factory original dipstick and tube has been a challenge. I'm not sure if my aftermarket dipstick is reading fine or not...I assume it is for the car transmissions, but whether that matters or not I have no idea.

My dipstick reads extra high when the engine isn't running. It's actually above the level of the dipstick tube when the engine is off, as evidenced by the fact that it pukes it out if you remove the tube. I think your aftermarket one might be for the wrong transmission or something.
