1982 Flareside XLS(?) on CL in South Florida

Came across this '82 while looking at some other stuff.

Looks like it may have been an XLS model, or it has had XLS parts and features added to it?

Me too David! If this truck is a real XLS, it would be worth returning to it's original state in my opinion. They are just so rare these days. I guess the only way to know for sure would be with a Marti report? I'm not sure if that would say if it was a real XLS or not.

The proof would be in the Marti report... but I am going to say 99.9% likelihood that it is an original XLS. He says the front grille has been changed (obviously) but the truck still has the black front and rear bumpers, black door handles and black windshield trim. Everyone loves the silver dash trim, but the door handles and windshield trim would be an odd and unlikely thing to swap.

That zero rust claim would make it a real nice candidate for somebody wanting to restore a real XLS model. Doesn’t look like it’s heavily modified or anything. Sure would look nice in red with the black and silver XLS stripes.

Haha...well, right now my stable only has one stall...

If I could get away with it, I'd have a whole yard full of Bullnoses...and probably a few Flaresides;).

I'd paint and decal it like the red XLS in the 1982 Brochure...



The fact that it would be an actual XLS model wouldn't mean much to most people, but it would to me.

I just noticed that the insides of the doors are silver...so this thing probably wasn't red anyway...

If it were me... and I had my hands on an original XLS... I think I would restore it to the colors and equipment specified on the build sheet/Marti report. But that is just my preference and psychological perfectionism. Otherwise why not just clone one? I doubt their rarity will ever amount to much value, but I would want it back to factory as close as I could get it. This truck does not give up its secrets too easily, but I’m guessing it may have started life Raven Black. It is a repaint, but the door frame is black, and the clear edging of the certification label seems to be there and does not look like it was masked. The scratches inside the bed do not appear to be revealing any of the other bright or light colors used on XLS’s. Black ones frequently had the red interior and was one of the more common colors. So that’s my guess and I’m sticking to it! 😉

I see the asking price on this truck is down to $6500 bucks....I believe it started up around $9000.

Getting into more realistic territory now.
