1980 F250 4x4 work truck

This is a continuation of my thread from the new members area. The engine is blown, getting a new engine, either another 351 or 400? I don’t know. I’m mechanically inclined, a hobby machinist, etc, but this is my first Ford pickup. I’m learning.

An observation: looks like the grille and hood have been changed.  The hood should have had FORD lettering across it, and the grille shouldn't have the Ford emblem in the center.  That was the way the '80 and '81 trucks came, but that changed to like yours in '82.

if it had a 351m or 400, I believe that will be a different bolt pattern for the transmission that the more contemporary small block engines (300-6, 302, 351, etc). I dont know as much about "non small block" fords, but Im sure someone will step in and tell you which engines would be potential bolt in replacements. Do you know which Automatic transmission you have? Besides the engine, do you know of any other mechanical work it needs? Id love to have a light 4x4 3/4 ton work truck. consider me jealous!

Truck was dropped off today. Within a week he should get it up on a lift and will know exactly what I have to work with. Most likely will replace with another 351, new tires, and get it to pass Maine inspection. Thinking about adding remote locking hubs.

I was told they existed, but I haven’t found them myself. Pneumatic, and electric ones exist? I don’t know, I’m learning.

I've never seen an axle that would fit this era truck with auto locking hubs.

The later vacuum actuated ones by Ford were hot garbage. I swapped a lot of those to manual hubs.

But, I'm subscribed, so I'm interested to see what you come up with.

I recently discovered the LMC catalog and have been in heaven ever since, dreaming up what I want to do. I have a TIG welder but a nice MIG would be nice to have as well. Going to do all the bodywork myself. I

Just an update, speed shop is still looking for a long block.
Pick two out of the three; Cheap, Quality, Quick. Guess which two I picked?
